DROPBOX – PART 1

Dropbox

1. What is Dropbox?

Dropbox is a free file hosting service operated by Dropbox, Inc., that offers cloud storage, file synchronization, and client software. Dropbox allows users to create a special folder on each of their computers, which then it synchronizes so that it appears to be the same folder (with the same contents) regardless of which computer is used to view it.

Files placed in this folder also are accessible through a website and cellular phone programs. It allows you to store and access your saved photos, documents and videos from any computer or smartphone. You can also invite people to your Dropbox folders in order to share files with them. The program gives you 2 GB of free storage and is an easier and more efficient alternative to emailing files to yourself, using a flash drive or using GoogleDocs.

Dropbox supports Windows, Mac OSX as well as Linux. It also supports backup and sync for mobile devices. You have this program for iPad, iPhone, Dropbox for Blackberry, and Dropbox for Android. We will use Windows in this tutorial.
