Firefox 1.0 was released in 2004 and became a huge success: in less than a year it was downloaded over 100 million times. Since then new versions of Firefox have come out regularly and keep setting new records.

In 2008, Firefox reached 20% worldwide market share and users were very satisfied because this brought choice back to them.

According to different sources, as of October 2012, Firefox has approximately 20% to 24% of worldwide usage share of web browsers, making it the third most used web browser. According to Mozilla, Firefox counts over 450 million users around the world.

Firefox includes most of the features which users of other browsers are familiar with.

The latest version incorporates great deal of features and fixes and some dramatic differences as well.

Here is a list of features that make Firefox 3 worth choosing:

1. Improved Add-ons manager

Firefox is very special thanks to its extensions, add-ons, plug-ins and themes, thus Firefox 3′s Add-ons dialog got the attention it deserved. The Add-ons menu on Firefox is stronger and intuitive on at least two fronts: You can search and install extensions and themes right from the pop-up box without browsing. Also, a new plug-in manager lets you enable and disable third-party helpers like Flash, QuickTime, and anything else which makes content work.

2. More intuitive interface overall

Mozilla upgraded a lot of things throughout Firefox 3, thus boosting the overall usability of the software. Users who want to make sites with small text more readable permanently can do that with Firefox 3. You can increase the size of images or text, or both on hard-to-read sites. Additionally, Firefox 3 applies  favicons a lot more consistently to bookmarks, you can click on a site’s  favicon to have prolonged web page identification info, you possibly can resize the search box to hold more than two words and the find-on-page search box automatically grabs the selected word.

3. Stronger phishing and malware protection

Firefox 3 has stronger filters and protection against phishing sites, malware, cookies and other instruments that compromise security and privacy. A malware warning message shows up when you visit sites known to deploy malicious software. It’s very easy and safe to switch to the open-source browser.

4. Improved download manager

With Firefox you will never wonder where a download came from, or went to again. Gran Paradiso download manager lets you search through recent files, resume large downloads after a crash or restart and allows you to keep close track of your transfers in the status pub.

5. Native looks for every system

Your browser is a significant part of your computer time, so having it look like almost nothing else on your system can be seriously frustrating. Firefox’s designers created system integration important with this release.

6. Streamlined “Remember password” handling

Don’t worry about saving the right password. Gran Paradiso only demands you to implement its password-saving function once you’re already in and sure anything worked and it won’t block you from viewing the logged-out version of a page if you don’t want to sign in.

7. Smart bookmarks

Firefox 3′s new Smart Bookmarks function can analyze your browsing behaviors and generate lists of links based on it. The default bookmark toolbar only includes three criteria:  ”Most Visited,” “Recently Bookmarked,” and “Recent Tags.

8. Places Organizer replaces the Bookmark Manager

Although previous versions of Firefox’s bookmark organizer made you drag and drop your links around nested folders,  Firefox 3′s new Places Organizer, those with reams of URLs can find them using boolean (a data type with only two values: true or false) rule searches and multi-column results, as well as keep them better organized with a tagging system.

9. Smart Location Bar learns how you browse

Like a personal assistant who knows just when you need the right phone number, Firefox 3′s address bar, now dubbed the Smart Location Bar, helps you get to your frequently visited, or recently discovered sites in super-quick manner.

10. Insanely improved performance

It’s not flashy, and it doesn’t have any social networking capabilities, but Firefox 3′s actual performance is the best motive anyone should think about upgrading, or making the switch. Firefox’s designers claim that their third major release is 9.3 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 in JavaScript functionality, and 2.7 times faster than Firefox 2.
