Microsoft PowerPoint 2010

This article will help you learn how to manage Slide Masters in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. When you create a new slide with the New Slide button, PowerPoint 2010 uses by default the title and content layout. This has been set as a Slide Master, which means that every new slide that you open will use the same template as the Slide Master.

If you click on the Home tab and then click on the New Slide button, PowerPoint 2010 will present you with several Master Layouts that come with predefined themes and formatting.

1. Now click on the View tab and select the Slide Master button.

Note: Now you can see that on the left side of the screen a pane appeared which shows the current Slide Master on top and several supporting layouts below it. You can adjust the Slide Master and any of the supporting layouts.

2. First we are going to apply a theme on the whole presentation. Click on the Slide Master on the left pane. Then click on the Themes button and select any of the presented themes you like.

3. Here you can also make adjustments to the Colours, Fonts and Effects.

4. To make additional changes click the title place holder and then click on the Format tab. Now let’s fill the text with a solid colour by selecting the Text Fill button form the WordArt Styles section and choose any colour.

5. If you want to make changes to a particular layout below the Slide Master, select the Master Title Layout (the second one) and here you can expand or shrink the placeholders or the background of the layout by simply holding your mouse and dragging the borders of the placeholders to the one side or another.

Note: You can make similar adjustments to any other layout of the Slide Master.

6. When you are finished with making changes to the Slide Master, just click on the Slide Master tab and then click on the Close Master View button in the top right corner of the screen.
