This article will show you how to better filter Google searches by explaining the search preferences you can set and the filtering options you have to have in mind when searching through Google.

Google’s vast catalogue of index Web Pages is a large part of what makes it such a popular tool for finding information on the Internet. Sometimes, however this means that a keyword search we typed in may eventually return hundreds or in some cases even thousands of suggested websites, many of which are not what you want.

Google offers several methods of how to filter your Web searches which could help you significantly in narrowing your search scope just to those websites that give the best results of the topic you are searching for.

1. You can set your Google search preferences by clicking the Preferences hyperlink, next to the search box on Google’s main page.

After doing the previous step, you will be directed to a page, where you are able to select any of the given search options.

By doing this, Google will automatically place a cookie on your PC that will allow your PC to remember all the preference settings that you have chosen, so you won’t have to go through it the next time you want to search.

2. Google Interface Language is the first option you can set as a preference..

This is the language that all the messages and tips in Google are displayed in whenever you go on the Google website. However, this doesn’t interfere with any of your search results. English is Google’s language by default.

3. Search language is the next choice. The search language that you specify determines the language of the pages that Google search. You can ask Google to return websites that best match your search criteria regardless of the language you have chosen or to only return websites that are written in a specific language or languages.

4. The next search preference is also a very important one. It is called Safe Search Filtering. The Safe Search Filtering option allows you to ban visiting websites with explicit content and images and language that match the same criteria.

The Moderate Filtering option is set by default and it also omits showing explicit images in your search results. The Strict Filtering option is more like the previous two options and it filters out explicit content and images. If you select the No Filtering option, you will be able to get search results without the Safe Search option. It is important to keep in mind what save search is and also what it isn’t. No filter is one hundred percent dependable. The Safe Search option excludes pretty much all of the explicit content, but don’t think that by using it you will be able to monitor your internet activity.

It’s also important to note that saved search does not act as a content filter for internet browsing. It only filters Google search results. If desired separate methods for filtering content must be established.

5. The Number of Results Filter determines the number of search results that Google will return per page. The default is to return ten results per page.

This is the fastest, especially for those with slower internet connections and can also help you improve your search skills and focus on the most relevant websites. If more sites per page are chosen, you can increase the number two twenty, thirty fifty or even a hundred.

6. Ordinarily when you start with people your search page is replaced by a search results page. If you would prefer to keep your main search page open you can set the Results Window option to open your search result in a new browser window, especially helpful when you anticipate opening more than one of the search results to have a variety of sources to reveal.

7. The Advanced Search Options that Google provides give you the option to further narrow the search results you will get. You can tell Google that you want to find websites that contain all of your keywords, anyone of your keywords or an exact phrase. Google also provides the option to exclude websites that contain specific words when searching. You can also use the Advanced Search Option to search for certain words or phrases within a specific website that you want.
